Cameron Overcomes Barriers

Even with talent, financial barriers are proving too great for many from low income or disadvantaged areas who are unable to accept places at the top schools without additional help.

The Realising Dreams Foundation was impressed to see the progress made by 20year old Cameron from Rossendale despite these financial limitations. Cameron has worked his way up through his training with his family making regular sacrifices and taking out loans to support his ambitions.

He had approached countless other government, arts and charities for support without luck as they often don’t support individuals unlike The Realising Dreams Foundation.

Cameron then won a part-scholarship at Emil Dale Academy, topped up with loans taken by his family that allowed Cameron to complete a two-year Extreme Musical Theatre course.  Throughout his journey, Cameron has been active in giving back to others. He regularly teaches acting classes and often helps at his former drama school.

Earlier this year, at the end of his time at Emil Dale, Cameron fought off fierce competition from over 3000 people to secure a coveted place at Mountview Academy.  He’ll be the first in his family to ever study at degree level. However, with mounting loans to be repaid, Cameron and his family were finding it difficult to secure the funds needed, not only for tuition but for living expenses.

His dream took one step closer when Cameron received the news he had secure a DaDA (Dance and Drama Award) to cover part of his tuition in recognition of his talent and financial difficulties. Here he is in action.

The Realising Dreams Foundation has stepped in to offer the remaining costs for one year. We hope this will alleviate pressures allowing Cameron and his family to focus their funds on meeting the additional costs while he trains at Mountview.

Our foundation is all about giving back and making a difference. We firmly believe that Cameron has the talent needed to succeed and make a difference to others in the years to come.

Cameron concluded: “I’ve often been an advocate for working class actors. I hope that through my time at Mountview I can show it is possible to succeed with hard work, talent and a little extra help from those who believe in you.  I’m so grateful to my family and others like The Realising Dreams Foundation who really are helping me achieve my dreams.”
