Dreams Come True at Tring Park

Welcome Max – our latest rising star whose dream to study at Tring Park will become a reality from September thanks to a scholarship and a little extra help from The Realising Dreams Foundation.

16-year-old Max from South Wales is a young performer whose talent and determination won him a rare and sought-after scholarship to study Musical Theatre at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. But the remaining costs were still proving difficult for Max and his family despite their best efforts and sacrifices. Max has also been working hard and fundraising to meet the shortfall needed.

Max’s performing journey has seen him take the lead in a range of roles. He is a soloist for Only Boys Aloud, a national Welsh Male Choir and charity, and has supported acts such as Katherine Jenkins and Alfie Boe. Max performed in St Martin’s Cathedral in Ypres, during the 2017 Somme Memorial Service.

Max began his training at his local drama group, Congress Youth Theatre. Their ethos of acceptance and encouragement inspired Max, and has stayed with him as he moves forward in his performing career. Having trained there for seven years, Max then went on to complete a year at the National Youth Theatre and now hopes to further hone his talent at Tring Park.

Max’s community-mindedness caught the attention of the trustees through his frequent performances in aid of local charities such as Age Connect, Tenovus Cancer Care and Hope GB. He has also volunteered teaching drama workshops at his local primary school, and supports other boys keen to break in to performing arts.

Max’s determination and natural gift is impressive, but his potential is clearly limited by circumstances outside of his control. His references were among the best we have seen, proving not only his talent and presence in roles, but also his wider community perspective in supporting those younger, older and less confident or fortunate than him. Having experienced stigma and prejudice himself, Max knows how difficult it can be to truly be yourself, and hopes to make it easier for future generations of boys as they pursue a life in the arts. Finding applicants who so freely use their talent to make a difference to others is vital to our foundation. Together we really can make a difference.
