Sophie’s dream to build classrooms for a school in Uganda

Sophie Anderson is 17 years old with a strong social conscience so when her school, St. Andrews Academy in Paisley, Scotland decided to organise a trip to help build classrooms in Uganda, Sophie was at the front of the line to help.

But the £2,200 cost of the trip for each pupil would require a commitment to fundraising. Sophie has managed to raise over £1,500 herself but approached The Realising Dreams Foundation for extra help. We have agreed to help her reach her goal with an award of £700.

In June, Sophie will travel to Uganda with eighteen other pupils to spend three intensive weeks working with an under privileged Ugandan community. They will live in a local church dorm and work daily to help build classrooms for the school that is currently being built. In any spare time, Sophie and her classmates are looking forward to teaching some of the local children some English.

The Realising Dreams Foundation knows that even one person can make a difference. We were impressed by how passionately Sophie feels about helping this Ugandan community.

Sophie explains: “The deprivation and suffering that exists in countries like Uganda is heartbreaking and just absolutely awful.

“I’m desperate to take action. For me, going and physically building their school seemed an effective way to do this. I’m so grateful for the help from The Realising Dreams Foundation and I’m sure the people of the Ugandan village will too.

“Going to Uganda will be a wonderful experience and will make a huge difference in the lives of the children over there, I cannot wait!.”
