Swimming star secures medal haul at national championships

Our up and coming swimming star, Shiona has had a very busy few weeks competing at the Scottish National and Deaf National Swimming championships. We’re delighted she took time to send us an update on her achievements and latest medal haul.

Shiona explained:“I was in Aberdeen from 29th March to 2nd April for the Scottish National Age Group Championships.  I competed in four events, including two relays as part of the South Lanarkshire Swim Team and managed to achieve a new personal best time in the 100 freestyle event and beat my own Deaf Swimming national age group record for the 200 breast stroke (long course).

“On 15th April I also competed in the Deaf National Swimming Championships.  I’m very happy to have medalled in all of six events, achieving two golds and four silvers including four personal best times and set two new deaf national age group records.”

The event was combined with a training camp for the Deaflympics.  As well as daily sessions in the pool, there was a full programme of land training and fitness work.  There were also meetings with the Chef de Mission of the Deaflympics, a sports nutritionist expert and sports psychologist.  The team were issued with their swimming kit for the Deaflympics that has been sponsored by TYR.
